• Das Wappen der Hansestadt Rostock ist nach der "Hauptsatzung der Hansestadt Rostock" geschützt. Die Verwendung des Stadtwappens durch Dritte bedarf der Genehmigung durch den Oberbürgermeister der Hansestadt Rostock. Diesem Wappen stehen solche Abbildungen gleich, die ihm zum Verwechseln ähnlich sind.

Genehmigungsfreie Nutzung (sogenannte stillschweigende Genehmigung)

Die Genehmigung zum Verwenden des Wappens gilt als stillschweigend allgemein erteilt, wenn dessen Gebrauch ordnungsgemäß (heraldisch richtig) erfolgt und im Interesse der Hansestadt Rostock liegt. Die genehmigungsfreie Nutzung gilt für:

• Schmuckartikel, Warenpackungen, Reiseandenken und Zierfähnchen, ferner für Vereinsfahnen, -banner oder -abzeichen sowie Vereinssportbekleidung, wenn das Wappen gemeinsam mit dem Vereinsnamen verwendet wird;
• das Führen des Wappens auf privaten Kraftfahrzeugen;
• private Wappensammlungen;
• die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Fraktionen der Bürgerschaft der Hansestadt Rostock oder

deren Mitglieder;

• dienstliche Zwecke, wie für das Gestalten von Schildern, Inventar, der Dienstkleidung etc.

Die stillschweigende Genehmigung kann im Einzelfall jederzeit widerrufen werden, insbesondere dann, wenn das Wappen nicht in der heraldisch richtigen Form wiedergegeben wird oder der Eindruck entsteht, dass die Hansestadt Rostock organisatorisch, geschäftlich oder zumindest hinsichtlich einer einzelnen Aufgabendurchführung mit der
