English: Anna Boberg travelled to Norway and Lofoten for the first time in the summer of 1901. The countryside, the special light, the aurora borealis and midnight sun deeply impressed the artist. She made some three dozen return visits and had a winter nest and a summer house built there. Anna Boberg was a prolific artist and left a large number of paintings. The title of this painting is crucial – what appears at first glance to be midwinter is, in fact, spring.
